The Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Celebration Foundation was founded in 2006. The organization is a collaboration of local churches, Southwestern Christian College, local public and private school representatives, and the community of Terrell to honor Dr. Martin Luther, Jr.--a leader of America’s greatest nonviolent movement for justice, equality and peace. In 2008, the organization's name was changed to the "MLK Celebration of Terrell, Inc." when the federal 501(c)(3) nonprofit status was obtained.
The primary purpose of the MLK Celebration of Terrell, Inc.is to recognize the service of community members as well as award selected 12th graders college scholarships using your donations! We strive to encourage young people of our community to look for positive role models in their environment (e.g., adults such as teachers, pastors, scout leaders, mentors). Winners and their Honorees are recognized and receive awards at the Annual MLK Celebration each January on the federal holiday at the Terrell Performing Arts Center, 6 p.m.
